Xfce is a lightweight desktop environment for unix-like operating systems. It aims to be fast and lightweight, while still being visually appealing and easy to use. There are some reason for I prefer xfce instead others Desktop for Linux, some of that I listed below:
- Because xfce isn’t bloatted
- Because xfce is based on GTK+
- Because xfce is clean and clear
- Because xfce is highly configurable
- Because with xfce I can use *Box Visual Style
Would you like to see my desktop in action? here is the traditional screenshot:
Very Cool!! I mean I can setting a minimalistic appearance with a right button menu like fluxbox, openbox and etc, and put a simple tiny bar at top right with some more usefull applets just to show me time, network connection, sound volume, battery state and some others utilities. The *Box style, for me, is the best desktop ever. Why you need several bar, widgets and eye candy with the aims of visual appeal if most of your time you only needs a terminal and a browser? keep it simple, man!
OBS.: As you may know, *Box style can be setup using Enlightenment and the final result will be less bloated then xfce – Enlightenment Foundation Libraries (EFL) is really more fast then GTK+ or QT.

Mmh.. very nice desktop!
Can you link the wallpaper or upload it somewhere (Gnome-look, Xfce-look, ImageShack or similar)?
Well, I use KDE 3.5.9 on my laptop, and i find it’s very comfortable and powerful.
Konqueror can handle a lot of protocols, can even browser a tar.gz file, a remote ssh directory and so on…
And I’ve never found anything *powerful* as AmaroK.
I think I will give Xfce a try. I always looked nice to me.
And… i tried clicking on the image to have an higer resolution, but i got an error. Check the link
p.s: I think I’ll all the whole blog, and maybe fetch&import the rss feed.

Hey Carlos,
I like clean desktops too, but I’m still using Gnome. Most of the time I only use Firefox, gnome-terminal and gnome-do, so maybe xfce is better for me too
.
See ya’!
